The Nigerian Muslim Ummah, under the leadership of the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, wishes to congratulate the entire Nigerian Christian Community on the auspicious occasion of Easter.

As a religious festival commemorating a significant landmark in Christianity, Easter serves as a springboard for religious re-awakening and general rebirth. It is our hope and prayer that this spirit of re-awakening and rebirth will continue to engender positive change in our individual and national lives especially now that conscious efforts are being made to address some of our national challenges like corruption and insecurity.

Easter serves to re-direct our attention to those values and ideals that we traditionally share in common, such as faith in God, truthfulness, honesty and commitment to public good. It is on this basis that we commend the Federal Government for tackling corruption with seriousness in order to entrench honesty, modesty, decency and discipline in our public life.

In the spirit of the season as well, we urge the Federal Government to work harder on “resurrecting” our social infrastructure especially our roads. That our roads have become death traps is a phenomenon that pricks our conscience and we should make Easter’s symbolic message of renewal to bear in that direction.

The Nigerian Muslim Ummah wishes the entire Christians joyous celebrations and many happy returns of the holy season. We also wish all Nigerians at large a renewed commitment to holiness, fasting, prayer, penance, love and righteousness to the glory of God and the advancement of humanity.
