The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nig. Commends the National Human Rights Commission on its investigation, report and order that the federal Government should pay N10 Million compensation to each of the dependants of 8 youths killed by joint forces of the military and SSS at Apo in Abuja few months ago. This report and order is a landmark decision that would halt hasty and senseless killing of innocent citizens by those expected to protect them that is security agencies. We therefore appeal to security operatives to redesign their strategies when reports are made by arresting suspects and making to face judicial process according to the law. Rash decision of firing suspects at point of arrest is inhuman and callous.
Meanwhile, the FG should initiate judicial enquiry to determine the criminals who killed innocent’s citizens in Nasarawa State as the military denied its involvement whereas the villagers claimed that people in military uniform attacked them and killed over 20 innocent people who were mourning the death of an old man.
The FG is commended for rejecting most of the recommendations contained in Oronsanye Report on Federal Parastatals’ restructuring. Muslim Media Watch Group notes that Adoption of Oronsanye Report would have created more problems than it intended to solve as the issue of unemployment, financial recklessness, unpaid pensions and gratuities of retired Public Officers by FG were not addressed. On National Confab, the group calls for adoption of a new political system for Nigeria that is less expensive than the present Presidential System, drastic reduction in take home-pay of political functionaries and making of political offices less-attractive with severe penalty for corruption and wanton destruction of lives and property.
