This is to refute the false statement ascribed to the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, OFR, FNAL, (on page 2of Punch Newspaper of Friday, 10th June, 2016), that he was not aware that a woman was maliciously killed by a mob in Kano. This is totally false.
A person who introduced himself as Success called the Secretary General to ask about a carpenter killed in Kaduna and he replied that he was in a meeting in the National Mosque and was unaware of the case of the carpenter which the reporter mentioned. Success did not ask the Secretary-General about the incident in Kano. It is, therefore, malicious to have added, in the publication, that the Secretary-General said he was not aware that a woman was killed in Kano. We strongly believe that this is capable of tarnishing the reputation of the Secretary General.
We shall, therefore, appreciate a retraction of that aspect of the story.
Signed
Abubakar Akande,
Head,
Directorate of Information,
NSCIA.
